Social Media Auto Publish – Settings

The settings for the Social Media Auto Publish are given below.

Click on the Social Media Auto Publish plugin menu in the left menu bar to get the settings page.

Facebook Settings

Facebook settings are given below.

 

You have to create a Facebook application before filling the facebook settings details. 

Click here to create new Facebook application. 
In the application page in facebook, navigate to Apps > Settings > Edit settings > Website > Site URL.

Set the url of your site as the Site URL.

Using the link Creating Facebook Application , you can see how to create the facebook application.

From the facebook application, you will get the application id and application secret. Enter these values in the space provided.

1. Application id – Enter the application id from facebook application here.

2. Application Secret – Enter the facebook application secret here.

3. Facebook user id – Here you need to enter the facebook user id.

Note for beginners: This is your profile id and not the page id. To find the facebook user id, please click on your profile image. Now you can see a link like https://facebook.com/USER_ID. The section after https://facebook.com/ will be your user id (here the user id is USER_ID). Please follow the link http://kb.xyzscripts.com/how-can-i-find-my-facebook-user-id/ for more details.

4. Message Format for posting – This is the message format for posting in the facebook. You can add your message with post title, blog title etc. here. The codes are given below.

  • {BLOG_TITLE} – This is the title of the blog (wordpress site name)
  • {POST_TITLE} – Title of your post.
  • {PERMALINK} – This is the URL of the post.
  • {POST_EXCERPT} – This is the summary of your post.
  • {POST_CONTENT} – This is the description of the post.
  • {USER_NICENAME} – This is the nice name of the author. 
If you want to display the post title, the link to the post and the summary of the post, please use the codes  {POST_TITLE} - {PERMALINK}-{POST_EXCERPT}. You can select the code from the dropdown menu.

5. Posting Method – We have 5 posting methods

  • Simple Text Message – We can add simple text messages to our facebook account with this option. A sample image is given below.

  • Text Message with Image – Here we can add text and image in facebook. We have 2 options in this method.
  • Upload image to app album – Here we have an album for the app and all the uploaded images are present in this album. All our post images are available in this album. For the first 2 images, we donot have an album option. From the third images, all our images are in the app album. A sample image is given below.

  • Upload image to timeline album – We can upload the image to timeline using this method. Here we can see the text and related images in the timeline. This option is available if your profile has a timeline album.

  • Text Message with Attached Link – Here we can add text with attached link in facebook. We have 2 options here.
  • Attach your blog post – Using this option we can attach the blog  post with facebook post. A sample image of attaching the blog post in facebook is given below,

  • Share a link to your blog post – Using this option we can have the option of “Share” with the facebook post. A sample image of sharing a link to the blog post in facebook is given below.

6. Enable auto publish post on my facebook wall – If you want to publish your blog posts in facebook automatically, enable this option.

7. Select facebook pages for auto publish – You can select your facebook pages where you want to publish the blog posts. If you have different facebook pages and profile page, you can select where you want to publish the blog post.

Note 1 : You can see this option (Select facebook pages for auto publish) only after authorizing the facebook account. In the first time when you entering the values, this field is not available. After entering the values, you need to authorize the FB account and then you can see the facebook pages for auto publish.Save the facebook settings again after selecting the page where you want to display the post.

Note 2 : While authorizing, please make sure that you have entered the correct facebook keys and details. If any of the value is incorrect, it won’t authorize the account.

Note 3 : If you do not know your facebook user id, please click on your facebook profile. Now it will load your public view of your account and the URL address will be like https://facebook.com/userid. Here the portion after https://facebook.com/ will be your user id.

Twitter Settings

The twitter settings are given below.

You have to create a Twitter application before filling the twitter settings fields. 
Click here to create new application.

Specify your website for the application. This is given in the settings page.
In the twitter application, navigate to Settings > Application Type > Access. Here select Read and Write option. 
After updating access, navigate to Details > Your access token in the application and click Create my access token button.

Using the link Creating Twitter Application , you can see how to create the twitter application.

1. API Key – Here enter the API key from twitter application.

2. API secret – Enter the API secret here.

3. Twitter username – Enter your twitter username here.

4. Access token – Here you can enter the twitter application access token.

5. Access token secret – Enter the access token secret here.

6. Message format for posting – This is the message format for posting in the twitter. You can add your message with post title, blog title etc. here. The codes are given below.

  • {BLOG_TITLE} – This is the title of the blog (wordpress site name)
  • {POST_TITLE} – Title of your post
  • {PERMALINK} – This is the URL of the post.
  • {POST_EXCERPT} – This is the summary of your post.
  • {POST_CONTENT} – This is the description of the post.

7. Attach image to twitter post – If you want to attach images with the twitter post, use this option. A sample image is given below.

8. Enable auto publish posts to my twitter account -  If you want to publish your blog posts in twitter automatically, enable this option.

 

Linkedin Settings

Linkedin settings are given below.

You have to create a Linkedin application before filling the linkedin settings details. 

Click here to create new Linkedin application. 
In the application page in linkedin, enter the values in the required fields and set the url of your site as the Website URL. Also change the Live Status to Live, to display the posts publically.

Using the link Creating Linkedin Application , you can see how to create the linkedin application.

From the linkedin application, you will get the API Key and API Secret Key. Enter these values in the space provided.

1. API Key – Enter the API key from linkedin application here.

2. API Secret Key – Enter the linkedin API secret key here.

3. Message Format for posting – This is the message format for posting in the linkedin. You can add your message with post title, blog title etc. here. The codes are given below.

  • {BLOG_TITLE} – This is the title of the blog (wordpress site name)
  • {POST_TITLE} – Title of your post.
  • {PERMALINK} – This is the URL of the post.
  • {POST_EXCERPT} – This is the summary of your post.
  • {POST_CONTENT} – This is the description of the post.
  • {USER_NICENAME} – This is the nice name of the author.

4. Attach image to linkedin post – If you want to attach images to your linkedin posts, please enable this option.

5. Share Post content with – Select the option to whom you want to display the posts. Select “public” if you want to display the post to public or select “Connections Only”, if you want to display the post with your connections only.

6. Enable auto publish posts to my linkedin account -  If you want to publish your blog posts in linkedin automatically, enable this option.

We can publish the posts in linkedin with or without images. The linkedin posts are given below.

Basic Settings

We can add the basic settings of the plugin here.

FB basic settings

1. Publish wordpress `pages` to social media - If you want to publish the wordpress pages to social media, enable this option. 

2. Publish wordpress `posts` to social media - If you want to publish the wordpress posts to social media, enable this option. 

3. Select wordpress categories for auto publish - Here you can select all your categories or specific categories for auto publish of posts. So the posts under the selected categories are published automatically to social media.

4. Select wordpress custom post types for auto publish - If you have any custom post types in the site and want the posts in these types for auto publish, please select the types.

5. Default selection of auto publish while editing posts/pages - If you want to publish to facebook when editing a post or page, please enable this option.

6. SSL Peer Verification - This is the setting of verifying the ssl connection with external site. It is better to use the SSL peer verification. In some site the SSL peer verification is not available and then you can disable this option.

7. Enable credit link to author - Enable this option for a credit link to the plugin author.

8. Enable premium version ads - You an enable/disable the premium version ads here.

 

Logs

In the ‘logs’ section we can see the status of the auto publish.

It shows the post id, published date and time and the status.

We can find the error messages here, if there is any error while publishing.
